Our Story

How we met and fell in love

Ryan and Nguyen officially met on January 29, 2025, thanks to Ryan's brother, Joshua.

Now you might be wondering… how did Joshua know Nguyen?

Let's rewind to September 2024, when Nguyen moved to Utah for work at Layton Hospital. That's where she met Josh. They quickly became good friends. That's the end of that story.

Fast forward a few months later: first date at Sushi Monster *arghhh*. Nguyen showed up and was immediately impressed to see Ryan already holding a cup of sake. The party had started before she walked in.

Ryan, on the other hand, was smitten the moment Nguyen walked through the door - elegant and spunky. The sushi was fine… but the conversation? FUN.

From that night on, life filled up quickly with ski dates, study sessions, game nights, trying new restaurants, traveling, and attempting an influencer career (which ended after three TikToks). In the kitchen, they discovered just how different they are. While Ryan carefully follows the recipe, Nguyen confidently cooks with pure vibes and a little chaos.

Somewhere between the laughter, adventures, and everyday moments, it became clear that they simply have so much fun together.

Almost a year later, on January 11, Ryan surprised Nguyen with a proposal at Deer Valley after a ski day with Josh once again playing an important role as the paparazzi.

And now here we are, ready to celebrate the next chapter of our lives, embracing the chaos, the challenges, the achievements, the love, and all the fun that comes with it.

The special people standing by our side

Bride's Side

Hường Thạch

Mother of Bride

Trung Nguyễn

Father of Bride

Haley Lahey

Maid of Honor

Haley and Nguyen met in pharmacy school after being randomly placed into a group that later became known as the "Dimes Squad." What started as study sessions and big cups of Dutch Bros turned into a friendship filled with laughter, spontaneous spending habits, and lifelong memories. Haley was the one introduced Nguyen to skiing and to remembering that life should always be fun.

Ashley Phyu

Bridesmaid

Ashley and Nguyen met during a pharmacy school rotation that unexpectedly brought them together. What began as a coincidence, they bonded instantly over life, laughter, and conversations that somehow never seem to end. Ashley is kind, supportive, and always knows how to bring the energy to any celebration.

Angela Geiger

Bridesmaid

Nguyen will never forget when she first met Angela while searching for anatomy lab. From lab partners in Anatomy & Physiology, they became inseparable. Angela's upbeat spirit, kind heart, and brilliant mind have been a constant source of encouragement and joy. She is truly Nguyen's wifey.

April Huan

Bridesmaid

Nguyen met April while working at the same hospital, and their first hangout turned into a five-hour conversation discovering how surprisingly similar their life stories were, even down to matching chin scars. From that moment on, it felt like they had known each other forever. April's heart, resilience, and depth of understanding make her incredibly special to Nguyen.

Mya Maliyevsky

Bridesmaid

Nguyen and Mya crossed paths during pharmacy school but didn't grow close until they later found themselves working at the same hospital. From being lunch buddies to realizing they lived in the same neighborhood in Colorado, their friendship unfolded naturally. Mya is thoughtful, funny, caring, and someone Nguyen deeply cherishes.

Groom's Side

Jennifer Berghout

Mother of Groom

Lawrence Berghout

Father of Groom

Blake Johnson

Best Man

Blake is one of Ryan's oldest friends. They met when they were 11. After days of standing next to each other at the bus stop in silence, Blake finally broke the ice (after his mom paid him $5 to do it). Ever since, they've been homies. Sometimes years pass without seeing each other, but they never lose touch. As kids, they lived out their adventures of growing up together, experiencing everything from simple backyard fun (like making music videos) to awkward first dates and prom dances. Now they live close to each other again and continue finding ways to connect, at comedy shows, concerts, and ski days.

Chase Cragun

Groomsman

Chase and Ryan met in 5th grade, sitting next to each other during year-end class performance practice. They started chatting, and for some reason, a connection formed that has lasted 20 years. He later moved into Ryan and Blake's neighborhood, and the three became great friends. After their LDS missions, they reconnected at Utah State University, where they eventually became roommates. Chase now lives in Detroit, Michigan, but distance doesn't stop them from getting together. Chase is a prankster who will never let life get boring, and he's someone Ryan truly loves spending time with.

Josh Berghout

Groomsman

Josh (Joshi, Joshua), Ryan's brother. The one who introduced Ryan to his greatest love, Nguyen. Josh is five years younger than Ryan and has always been someone Ryan adores. Ryan was absent from Joshua's life for a few years while Josh was growing up, but they grew close again as adults. Now, thanks to Nguyen, they spend more time together, playing games, eating good food, and just hanging out. Josh is so special to Ryan, and Ryan feels incredibly lucky to have him as a brother.

Hot Lava

Groomsman

Hot Lava and Ryan met in college. Lava was well known in their class for his charisma and fun-loving spirit. After years of passing each other on campus, they ended up as roommates. They kept each other going through their final years of college with frequent “desk pops” and plenty of laughs on the construction job site. Lava is someone who changed Ryan's life, showing him how to live honestly and with a sarcastically positive outlook. “That's all I have to say about that,” as Lav would always say.

Cooper Jones

Groomsman

Cooper and Ryan met in college, sharing several entry-level classes. Cooper later recruited Ryan to a local framing construction crew, Lucherini Construction, where Ryan had some of the best times of his life alongside Cooper, Lava, and the rest of the crew. Cooper is one of those guys you can always count on, and someone Ryan has looked up to for nearly 10 years. Ryan feels so fortunate to know Cooper and loves hearing about all the shenanigans he gets into. Ryan's life changed for the better after meeting Cooper Jones.

Gifts

“We didn't fall in love overnight. It was built in small moments, road trips, late nights, and every adventure in between.”

We truly mean it when we say your presence at our wedding is more than enough. You've already given us so much: your love, your support, and your time. But if your heart is feeling generous and you'd like to give a little extra, we've set up two small funds for the next chapter of our story. Every dollar goes directly toward building the life we've always dreamed of, together.

Home Fund

A home isn't just walls and a roof, it's where our story continues. Movie nights on the couch, hosting the people we love, trying out new recipes (with and without the recipe), and creating memories that are entirely our own. Help us build that life, one chapter at a time.
